Golay, world specialist in cultured pearls.History and legacy
The Golay company was created in 1887 in Le Sentier, in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland. Its founder, Louis-Auguste Golay, travelled the world in search of precious stones and rare gems. He was the first European to build relationships with Japanese pearl traders and to import the pearl into Europe. Over decades, Golay developed its business and became one of the world leaders in cultured pearls. With offices established in the pearl trade’s most crucial places, such as Hong Kong and Kobe, Golay was able to source the most beautiful pearls in the world. Parallel to this, Golay also developed considerable technical know-how in cutting precious and synthetic stones. For many years, Golay was the preferred supplier of major watchmakers and jewelers, offering them a wide range of beautiful gems for their creations, whether diamonds or pearls, which today represent 80% of Golay’s business. The pearl is undeniably the heart of the craft and of Golay’s historical legacy. A tradition for the future Today Golay is revolutionizing how people wear pearls by creating a modern, distinctive collection. The square pearl is born! Diane Pochard / trad. Yuliya Rudikova
