Résultat, des classiques de la photo, portraits de Sean Connery ou de Fred Astaire, pris par des références comme Terry O'Neil ou McKeown. A l'occasion du vernissage elle a répondu à nos questions.

Pourquoi ce choix de photographies ?

Le but principal de l'exposition Peacocks et Pinstripes est l’illustration dans l’instant de la mode masculine souvent négligée. Ces magnifiques photographes ont capturé des instants précieux de l'histoire de la mode

Pourquoi avoir choisi ce thème pour votre exposition ?

Après de longues discussions avec la Fashion and Textile Museum nous avons choisi d’ illustrer les multiples facettes du style masculin et du rapport que l'homme entretient avec le style depuis plus de 70 ans. De nombreuses légendes du siècle passé sont ainsi représentées dans cet ensemble remarquable et éclectique de photos.

Quand avez vous développé ce partenariat avec le musée de la mode et du textile ?

Nous avons commencé à travailler ensemble il y a plus de trois ans, et chaque fois c'est un vrai plaisir. Je suis d’ailleurs ravie d’annoncer que d'autres idées passionnantes et de nouveaux projets sont en cours…

Combien d'artistes sont exposés ?

Nous avons à peu près cinquante photos encadrées dans cette exposition et une large variété de photographes aux styles très différents : Slim Aarons, Terry O'Neill, Larry Ellis, Murray Garett pour ne citer qu'eux.

Comment résumeriez-vous au vue de ces photographies la mode masculine ?

C'est une question difficile : Terry O'Neill a photographié Richard Gere dans une position détendue et cool alors que lorsqu'il photographie Stephen Fry le style est complètement différent, plus proche de l'élégance du Duc de Windsor. Les thèmes choisis pour illustrer les différents moments de la mode de ces dernières années sont réunis autour de l’élégance, du flamboyant. Et surtout comment le temps a marqué et développé le style masculin.

Quelle photo résume le mieux selon vous la thématique de l'exposition ?

Stephen Fry, Mickey Rourke, Sean Connery and Richard Gere… difficile de faire un choix, chaque artiste a sa place au sein de cette exposition.

Why did you choose to work with these photographers?

Looking back at over 70 years of men's fashion we researched hundreds of pictures and negatives. This deep research provided us with a stunning selection and choice. The main goal of the Peacocks and Pinstripe exhibition is to illustrate a snapshot of masculine style and men's fashion which is often neglected. These gifted and talentuous photographers captured precious moments of the history of fashion.

Why did you choose this theme and what is the message you want to send through that exhibition?

After length discussions with the Fashion and Textile Museum we really wanted to illustrate the multitude of amazing and impressive styles within men's fashion during the past 70 years. Many legends of the past century are represented in this stunning and eclectic mix of photographs.

When did you first develop a collaboration with the Fashion and Textile Museum?

We have been working with the F&TM for the past three years. It is always a pleasure to work together and I am delighted to say we have several more exciting ideas and projects lined up.

How many artists are shown in this exhibition? We have over 50 beautiful framed photographs in this exhibition and a wide variety of photographers all with a very different style. Slim Aarons, Terry O'Neill, Larry Ellis, Murray Garrett to name a few of them.

How would you summarize the masculine fashion through theses pictures ?

Ahh a difficult question but, for casual it has to be Terry O'Neill's shot of Richard Gere, casual and cool, also Terry's shot of Stephen Fry, the style, colour and intensity of the clothes and shot are stunning, the elegance of the Duke of Windsor.

How important is male fashion/masculine style in your opinion?

Male fashion and Masculine style are so important and this collection of photographs really does reflect the development and changing pace of men's fashion, the casual, formal and the elegant together with individuality of men and their clothes.

Did you develop different topics in this exhibition? How visitors are oriented?

The topics and styles were researched and curated to illustrate so many elements of men's style and fashions through the past decades, the elegance of tailoring, the flamboyant, how leisure has moved and developed and how the boundaries cross over.

According to you which pictures best illustrate the exhibition?

Stephen Fry, Mickey Rourke, Sean Connery and Richard Gere. Having said that each and every one has its place in the show.
